We were recently hired by our mentor and good friend Roy Knyrim of SOTA
productions to create a couple of creatures for a commercial. Needless to say,
there was no time to build them from the ground up so
we employed a variety
of techniques. The heads were sculpted then ran in foam latex, the hands were
pulled from old molds and the armor was then foam constructed using L200 .
The details were burned into the armor with a dental waxer. The body's were
pulled from old creature suit molds. We built these in less than a week. The
creatures are supposed to be slightly comical which lends itself to the quick
nature of their construction. It just goes to show that some times the limitations
of budget and time can also make you come up with creative solutions.
